Barbara Jane Bowling

Barbara Jane Bowling, daughter of the late George W. and Dorothy Jane (Mitchell) Green was born on April 28, 1951 in Dixon, Missouri. She attended elementary school in Dixon and then attended Laquey Schools. At the age of 11, Barbara made an important decision in her life and was baptized at the Idumea Baptist Church and was a member there until she moved her membership several years later to the New Friendship Baptist Church. On April 5, 1969, Barbara was united in marriage to Henry Hale Bowling. They were blessed with two sons and one daughter. They lived in the area known as Turkey Ridge for several years and then moved to Swedeborg. Barbara was a hardworking woman. She worked as the head baker at H&L Grocery of Crocker, Playcraft, a seamstress on Fort Leonard Wood and in the cafeteria at the Laquey school. She was also an entrepreneur and owned and operated a restaurant and a doll shop in Buckhorn. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed traveling, sewing, making handmade clothes for dolls, and spending time in her flower beds. She loved flowers and enjoyed watching them grow and bloom. Most importantly, she loved her family and friends and treasured the times that she was able to spend with them. Barbara passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 in her sister’s home after a long and courageous battle with cancer having attained the age of 63 years and 28 days. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her dear friend: Richard Ledbetter of Swedeborg, MO; two children: Donald Hale Bowling of Waynesville, Missouri and Mary Elizabeth Bowling of Swedeborg, MO; daughter-in-law: Jennifer Bowling of Dixon, MO; seven siblings: Mary Anderson (Paul) and Margie Steen, both of Crocker, MO, Judy Wieners (Clarence) and John Green (Lisa), both of Laquey, MO, Paula Forrest of St. Robert, Raymond Green (Kaye) of Kane, IL and Ronnie Green (Kathy) of Montreal, MO; sisters-in-law: Gwen Green of Laquey, MO, Linda Green and Ruth Mann (Frank) of Waynesville, MO; brother-in-law: Bob Atwell of California, MO; ten grandchildren: Maranda Gwinn (Andrew), Aydrianna Bowling, Shannon Ogle (CT), Justin West (Paula), Cody West, Timothy Wood, Billy, Preston, Gordon and Bryant Bowling; two great grandchildren: Bryce Ogle and Juliet West; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; one son: William Albert Bowling; two brothers: George “Bill” and Freddie Green; two sisters: Nora Truehus and Norma Atwell; three brothers-in-law: Roger York, Bill Forrest and John Truehus; and one sister-in-law: Judy Green.
