Keith Bryon Heydt

Keith Bryon Heydt, son of the late Mark Patrick and Lovada Doris (Steigerwalt) Heydt, was born October 25, 1954 in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. Keith grew up in Lehighton, Pennsylvania and graduated from high school. Keith served his country faithfully until his retirement in 1997 in the United States Army. At the time of his retirement he had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. For his faithful service, Keith was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (6th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Non-Commissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award) Sharpshooter Marksmanship, and the Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar. He worked as a military engineer while in the Army. On July 5, 1991, Keith was united in marriage to Elizabeth Sarmiento in St. Robert, Missouri. They shared over 18 wonderful years of marriage together and shared three children: Nicole, Justin and Mark. Keith worked for a time with the New Jersey Zinc Company and after retiring from the military he began working as a maintenance supervisor for MWR. In his spare time, Keith enjoyed all kinds of sports: football, golf, baseball, watching NASCAR races and collecting sports memorabilia. He also loved to be outdoors while fishing and was very talented with carpentry work. Keith had two special companions in his life-his dogs Pepper and Mitzy. Keith was a member of the Waynesville Masonic Lodge #375 AF & AM, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post of Lehighton, Pennsylvania. Keith passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in the Barnes-Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, Missouri after a long illness. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Keith leaves to cherish his memory his wife Elizabeth Heydt of the home; 3 children: Nicole Heydt of Waynesville, MO, Justin Heydt of the State of Oklahoma and Mark Heydt of Springfield, MO; 3 sisters: Paula Musselman of Lehighton, PA, Kim Kerth of Macungie, PA and Patti Dietrich of Lehighton, PA; 1 brother: Mark Heydt of Palmerton, PA; 2 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 29, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/ St. Robert with Father James Calasara officiating. Serving as escorts were the United States Army. Burial with military honors followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Keith Heydt and may be left at the funeral home.
