Agnes Josephine Toula

Agnes Josephine (Kruta) Toula, only child of the late James and Agnes (Ontl) Kruta, was born March 14, 1923 in East St. Louis, Illinois. At an early age, Agnes and her family moved to Cicero, IL, a suburb of Chicago, where she grew up and attended school. Agnes was united in marriage to Emanuel Toula, Jr. on December 15, 1945 and enjoyed many wonderful years and memories together. They were blessed with two children: Terry and Denise. Agnes lived in Cicero, IL while Emanuel served overseas in the armed forces until 1957 when they relocated to Devils Elbow, Missouri. For many years thereafter, Agnes worked at Miller’s Market in Devils Elbow and began her employment with the US Post Office there in 1959 as a mail handler. She retired in 1984 as Devils Elbow’s Asst. Postmaster. During this period, Agnes and Emanuel owned and operated Hiawatha Campgrounds, also in Devils Elbow. Agnes was very personable, caring and loved visiting with friends, neighbors and campers as they came to both the post office and the campgrounds. Agnes’ pride and joy was her family. She loved to cook and care for them and her friends. She enjoyed social gatherings and in her spare time, she had an adventurous streak, enjoyed the outdoors, (when the wind didn’t mess her hair), liked pets, bowling and a good polka partner. Agnes was a member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church, CSA of America Lodge Sionilli and the American Czech Educational Center of St. Louis. Agnes passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 in the Tulsa Nursing Center of Tulsa, Oklahoma having attained the age of 89 years and 10 months. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Agnes leaves to cherish her memory her two children: Terry Toula of Devils Elbow, MO and Denise Toula of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren: Nicole Smith, Kimberly Herman, Angela Skryd and Christopher Toula; five great grandchildren: Alex Thompson, Alex Herman, Caitlyn Herman, Hannah Herman and Justin Skryd; and many relatives, friends and neighbors. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with visitation to follow until 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Agnes Toula to the donor’s choice and may be left at the funeral home.
