Douglas Harold Grosvenor

Douglas Harold Grosvenor, son of the late Harold Henry Grosvenor and Mae Ildean (Seaton) Grosvenor, was born October 30, 1946, in Jefferson City, Missouri. Doug, as he was known by his family and friends, grew up in Miller County, Missouri, around St. Elizabeth and St. Anthony until 1960 when he moved to St. Robert, Missouri. While in elementary school, Doug attended a two-room school called New Brown School until the 7th grade, and after moving to St. Robert, he attended and graduated from Waynesville High School in Waynesville, Missouri. Shortly after graduating from high school, Doug entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge after two years of service. He served in Vietnam and for his faithful service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Bar and the Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge from the military, Doug went to the St. Louis University for programming school. As Doug would tell the story, he met a “beautiful woman” by the name of Peggy Jo Duncan who he married on June 1, 1969, in Waynesville, Missouri and they were blessed with two boys, Jeffrey and Steven. Doug continued to serve his country when he became a federal employee. He worked at Fort Leonard Wood for 43 years as a program analyst and retired in 2010. In his spare time, Doug enjoyed John Deere tractors, hunting & fishing, and raising bird dogs. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, and he attended every ballgame that he could. He loved cheering them on and that was a continuation of what he did while his two boys were playing sports. Early in his life, Doug made an important decision in his life and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was baptized and became a member of Westside Baptist Church in Waynesville where he served as a deacon for many years. He and Peggy were very active in the church until his health began to decline. Together they served for over 50 years, whether that was as a kindergarten Sunday School teacher, serving in the nursery, or with the youth program. They loved serving in the church and while Peggy was the Vacation Bible School director for many years, you would find Doug right there helping to decorate and build anything that Peggy would think of. His desire to serve stemmed from his love for the Lord and he definitely touched a lot of little lives with his service. Doug went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in his home in Laquey having attained the age of 78 years. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Doug leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Peggy Grosvenor of the home; two sons: Jeffrey Grosvenor of Laquey, MO and Steven Grosvenor (April) of Waynesville, MO; eight grandchildren: Kayla Minor of Laquey, MO, Darien Grosvenor (Kristin) of Germany, Jaxson Grosvenor of Laquey, MO, Wyatt Grosvenor of Laquey, MO, Riley Grosvenor of Waynesville, MO, Regan Grosvenor of Waynesville, MO, Gavin Grosvenor of Laquey, MO, and Gabriel Grosvenor of Laquey, MO; two great-grandchildren: Toby Minor and Sloane Grosvenor; sister: Susan Bennett (Doug) of Springfield, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by two brothers: Terry and Donald Grosvenor; and one sister-in-law: Linda Storie. Even though he is gone from our sight, Doug’s commitment to his family and love for the Lord will live on in our hearts forever. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2024 in the Westside Baptist Church of Waynesville, Missouri with Rev. Lindell Shelden and Pastor Drew Simmons officiating. The song "Born to Be With You" by the Chordettes was played, "Long Black Train" and "Beulah Land" were sung by Mike Freeman, Greg Gabel, & Becky Lercher, and "It Is Well With My Soul" was sung by Becky Lercher. Serving as escorts were Doug's grandchildren: Kayla Minor, Darien Grosvenor, Jaxson Grosvenor, Riley Grosvenor, Regan Grosvenor, Wyatt Grosvenor, Gavin Grosvenor, and Gabe Grosvenor, along with nieces and nephews: Tim Wilkinson, Terri Lynn Skidmore, Kenny Storie, Jon Storie, David Grosvenor, Dan Grosvenor, Josh Grosvenor, and Jessica Babb. Burial with military honors followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri with honors provided by the Missouri Honors Team. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Doug Grosvenor and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
