SFC (Ret) Henry "Hank" Thomas Edmon

Henry “Hank” Thomas Edmon, son of the late Oscar and Edwina (Tessier) Edman, was born December 28, 1935 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada where he grew up and attended school. Henry later continued his education by attending Central Texas College and earned three degrees: General Studies, Automotive and Small Engines. For a short time, Henry served in the Canadian Army before entering the United States Army in 1967 and served his country faithfully for more than 20 years. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and for his faithful service, he earned several awards and commendations; some of which include: National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal - 4, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm (Unit), Vietnam Service Medal - 7, Overseas Service Ribbon - 3, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon - 3, Army Good Conduct Medal - 7, and the Meritorious Service Medal - 1. During his time in the military, he served 4 tours in Vietnam before retiring in 1989. On December 30, 1972, Henry was united in marriage to Yadwiga Freda Klimczak in Timmins, Ontario, Canada. They shared more than 29 years of marriage together and were blessed with one daughter, Janis. Yadwiga preceded him in death on June 2, 2002. After coming to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1978, Henry and the family decided to remain here after his retirement. He started his own janitorial business (D&E Carpet Cleaning Inc.) in 1992. In his spare time, Henry volunteered at the USO and enjoyed working with the soldiers on Fort Leonard Wood from 2009-2017. He was a member of the Francis J. Lynch VFW Post 3168 of Laquey and the American Legion Post 331. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. Henry passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017, in the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri having attained the age of 81 years, 6 months and 23 days. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Janis Edmon and son-in-law Shane Koster of Olathe, KS; two brothers, James Edman (Lynda) of Sudbury Canada and Richard Edman (Sue) of Chelmsford, Ontario Canada; three sisters, Theresa Kuehl (Ken-deceased) and Katherine Provincial, both of Sudbury, Ontario Canada and Lenore Rees of Toronto, Canada; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Klimczak (Jacynthe) of Ottawa, Canada, Zeke Klimczak-deceased (Kathy) and Danny Tonelli, both of Timmins, Canada, and Linda Reid (Doug) of Calgary, Canada; and seventeen nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2017 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Chaplain Ryan Davenport officiating. The songs “Ave Maria” and “Amazing Grace” were played. Serving as escorts were the United States Army. Burial with military honors followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Henry Edmon and may be left at the funeral home.
