John Vincent Stocker

John Vincent Stocker, son of Arthur Frederick Stocker and Fern Revae (Saylor) Stocker-Coonradt. was born March 14, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 in the Springfield Mercy Hospital of Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of 84 years. John graduated from West High School, Waterloo, Iowa with the Class of 1956. During his high school years, he was very active in the marching band, swing band and orchestra playing the drums and won first place in many local and state competitions. After graduating from high school, John played drums during the summer of 1956 for the Floyd Warren Dance Band of Waterloo, Iowa. He then started working for the Eagles Food Grocery Store chain in the Produce Department. On November 26, 1961, John was united in marriage to Betty Suzanne Tuttle of Waterloo, lowa. He and Betty had two girls; Laurie Anne (Stocker) Ewing and Connie Sue (Stocker) Wood. John and the family moved to Lakewood, California in 1972 and resided there until July 1977. John and the family moved to Balaton, Minnesota and resided there until 1984. John and Betty moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa until 2007 when they moved to St. Robert, Missouri. John held many positions throughout his life. He worked for the Eagles Grocery Store Chain and Prudential Insurance of Waterloo, Iowa; Lucky Food Stores in Westminster, California; Gambles Hardware Store in Balaton, Minnesota, and the Ace Hardware Store in Cedar Falls, Iowa. John was a talented man. In his younger years he loved to water ski, boat, bowl, golf and play drums. He was a history buff. He loved all kinds of history; U.S., World and Biblical. You could ask him anything about those subjects and he could cite years and events with ease. John worked with his hands specifically in woodworking. He made a beautiful, life size string art cross for the Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall, Minnesota and smaller versions for family and friends. He loved all kinds of music, specifically from the 40's, 50's and 60's. He knew many artists and songs. He was fond of several gospel artists such as Steve Green and the Gaither's. John was baptized on May 30, 1976 at the University Baptist Church of Long Beach, California along with his daughter Laurie. He was a professed Christian and loved the Lord. John will be sadly missed, but will be fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Betty Stocker of the home; two daughters: Laurie Ewing (Vance) of Dixon, Missouri and Connie Wood (Scott) of Balaton, Minnesota; one grandson Nicholas Ewing of Dixon, Missouri and one granddaughter Taylor Peters of Rochester, Minnesota; one sister-in-law Peggy Wichmann (Lowell) of Balaton, Minnesota; 4 nephews and 2 nieces, other relatives, and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Stocker on May 19, 1959 and .• , Fern Coonradt on April 30, 1992. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 6 p.m Thursday, January 26, 2023 in Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/ St. Robert. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until service time at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
