Peggy Anne (Mayhue) York

Peggy Anne (Mayhue) York, 78, of Richland, Missouri passed away on December 21, 2025 at her home. Born on December 27, 1946 in Sheridan, Arkansas, she was the eldest daughter of Truman James “Pete” Mayhue and Jessie Almeda (Dougan) Mayhue. Peggy graduated from El Dorado High School in 1964 and began working for Western Union in New Mexico. During a trip to Missouri to visit her dad, she met Virgil “Lyndal” York. They were married on June 21, 1969. Peggy and Lyndal had one daughter, Teresa, in 1973. After moving to Missouri, Peggy had several jobs at Fort Leonard Wood, including working at the commissary and for United Telephone; however, she spent the majority of her career in civil service for the United States Army. She held various administrative roles on post, most recently serving as Executive Assistant for the 3rd Chemical Training Brigade, before she retired in 2015. During her nearly 40 years of service, she earned many accolades for her work ethic, commitment, and outstanding performance. She met thousands of officers, troops, families, and friends and was beloved by many all over the world. Peggy was a people person to her core and absolutely never met a stranger–a true extrovert. She was affable, quick-witted, kind, loving, resilient, patient, generous, and exceptionally resourceful. She was very well connected within the military and civilian communities. In addition to excelling professionally, she was extremely involved in her daughter’s school and extracurricular activities. From making snacks for class parties to keeping score at softball games, fashioning make-shift costumes at the eleventh hour to organizing bake sales and fundraisers, judging debate tournaments to hosting sleepovers, she was always fully present and indelibly supportive. Moreover, she was “mom” to anyone who needed her. Peggy was baptized at a young age and as an adult became a member of Idumea Baptist Church in Laquey, Missouri, where she played piano for several years in the early 1970s. She also enjoyed travelling, shopping, playing cards and other games, cooking and baking, attending music and comedy shows, watching television, reading, and working crossword puzzles and word searches. But without question, what she loved more than anything was being a grandma. With the birth of their only grandchild, Tristan, in 2013, Peggy absolutely flourished. She and Lyndal travelled to many choir performances, band concerts, volleyball games, and other special activities, and, most importantly, never missed a birthday. Peggy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lyndal York, of Richland, Missouri; her daughter, Teresa (York) Morrison, of San Antonio, Texas; her granddaughter, Tristan Morrison, of San Antonio, Texas; her brother, Tommy Mayhue, of Carthage, Texas; her brother- and sister-in-law, Dallas and Linda York, of Springfield, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and many more extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Pete Mayhue, of Little Rock, Arkansas; her mother, Jessie Fitzpatrick, of Joshua, Texas; her sister, Janet Anderson, of Joshua, Texas, her brother, James Mayhue, of Little Rock, Arkansas; her step-father, Edward Fitzpatrick, of San Antonio, Texas; her step-mother, Nana Mayhue, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and her father- and mother-in-law, Ellis and Orlena York, of Richland Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland. Burial will follow in the Idumea Cemetery of Laquey, MO. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Peggy York and may be left at Memorial Chapel of Richland.
