Robert "Bob" Norris

Robert “Bob” Norris, son of the late John Preston and Ruby Mae (Carter) Norris, was born June 6, 1930 in Tampa, Florida. At the age of 18, Bob entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his retirement in 1968 after 20 years of service. He had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned several awards and commendations. On December 8, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy Tavares-Ferreira. They shared over 55 years of marriage together and five children: Kathie, Roberta, Frank, Steve and Cindy. Bob was a hardworking man and was a jack of all trades. He worked for a time as a cab driver and also as a car salesman. Bob owned and operated his own businesses as well. He had the Norris Construction Company and was known mostly for being the owner of Country Boys Feed Store in Laquey. He loved visiting with the customers that came into the feed store and enjoyed entertaining them with jokes. In his spare time, Bob loved to play Bingo and his handheld solitaire game. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and a good game of football, no matter what team was playing. He was a volunteer fireman with the Hazelgreen Fire Department. Most importantly, Bob loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially the grandchildren. Bob passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 in the Mercy Hospital of Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of 82 years, 8 months and 3 days. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Bob leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Dorothy Norris of the home; five children: Kathie Gonzalez of St. Peters, MO, Roberta Denison (Tom) of Pearland, TX, MSG (Ret) Frank Norris (Fredrica) of Laquey, MO, CSM Steve Norris (Lizabeth) of Lebanon, MO and Cindy Huff (Mark) of Lebanon, MO; one sister: Jean Barone of the state of Florida; 12 grandchildren: Bianca, Amanda, Jason, Matthew, Robert, Olivia, Frank, Michael, Paige, Zachary, Jaden and Amelia; 7 great grandchildren: Linda, Luke, Ella, Gracie, Ophelia, Emery and Naomi; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial service with honors was held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. The songs “Amazing Grace” and “Wind Beneath My Wings” were played. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood and fire department honors were provided by the Hazelgreen Fire Department. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Robert Norris to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.
