Bettie Louise Johns

January 20, 1930 - October 31, 2016

Bettie Louise Johns, one of eight children born to the union of the late Clyde and Elsie E. (Helm) Johns, was born January 20, 1930 in Waynesville, Missouri. She went to join her parents in heaven on Monday, October 31, 2016 in the Jefferson City Manor of Jefferson City, Missouri having attained the age of 86 years. Bettie grew up in the Hooker Community, outside of Waynesville. At the age of 18 months, Bettie was involved in an accident which caused her to have seizures the rest of her life. She and the family moved to Russellville, Missouri, where Bettie lived for 18 years. When her mother moved to Villa Marie in Jefferson City, Bettie went with her and remained there until she moved to Jefferson City Manor. She never let her disability slow her down. You could find Bettie cooking beans every day for the family while everyone was still at home, or cleaning the house, or any other house chore that needed to be done. She was a very hard worker. Bettie enjoyed working puzzles, and word find books. At an early age, Bettie made a profession of faith and throughout her life, she read the Bible completely through several times. One of her other loves was her family. She loved visiting with them and every time they would come to visit, it gave her another reason to make an extra pot of coffee (because Bettie loved her coffee). Bettie will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her three siblings: Ray Johns and wife Debbie of Dixon, MO, Barbara Taggart of Jefferson City, MO and James Johns of Scott City, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Bettie was preceded in death by four siblings: Ernest Johns, Wilmer “Willie” Johns, Edith Nelson and Mary Ann Hartman; and brother-in-law: J.R. Taggart. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2016 in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery of Waynesville with Rev. Chris Hendrix officiating. Serving as escorts were family and friends. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
