Billie Jean Roam

Billie Jean (Wilson) Scrivener Roam, daughter of the late Elmer Eli and Maude Elizabeth (Cannon) Wilson, was born August 28, 1920 in Manes, Missouri. Billie graduated from Mtn. Grove High School and furthered her education at Southwest Missouri Teacher’s College in Springfield, Missouri. Billie taught school for several years throughout Wright County, Missouri. On November 28, 1943, Billie was united in marriage to Lawrence Elvin Scrivener in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. They were blessed with one son: James Randy Scrivener. Lawrence preceded Billie in death in 1965. In 1942, Billie began working on Fort Leonard Wood for AAFES and retired after 30 years of service. She managed two service clubs: Soto Service Club and Walker Service Club. On January 2, 1972, Billie was united in marriage to Joe Ed Roam in Waynesville, Missouri and gained a daughter: Janice. Joe Ed preceded Billie in death on July 17, 1987. In her spare time, Billie loved to shop. She also enjoyed doing flower arrangements and liked to share them with her family and friends. She loved to cook and took every opportunity to cook for her family and friends. Billie passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in Spring Hill, Tennessee having attained the age of 93 years, 9 months and 19 days. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Billie leaves to cherish her memory two children: Janice “Jann” Dye (Ronnie) of Waynesville, MO and James “Randy” Scrivener (Carol) of Franklin, TN; three grandchildren: Holly Buchanan, Brett Scrivener (Suzanna) and Jon Dye (Kristin); five great grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and two husbands, Billie was preceded in death by two brothers: Orus and Russell Wilson, one sister: Lois Smith and one grandson: Jeffery Allen Scrivener. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 in the Westside Baptist Church of Waynesville with Pastor LIndell Shelden officiating. Billie’s daughter-in-law, Carol Scrivener, read a poem that was special to Billie and Billie’s nephew, Dr. Roger Smith recalled his wonderful memories of her. Soloist Becky Lercher sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Amazing Grace”. Serving as escorts were Jon Dye, Brett Scrivener, Richard “Hank” Scrivener, Jim Jeffries, Donald Wilson and Dr. Roger Smith. Recognized as honorary escorts were Marilyn Salveter and Edythe Miller (posthumously). Burial followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery of Richland, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Billie Jean Roam to the American Cancer Society or the organization of the donor’s choice and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
