Carole Naomi Hill

Carole Naomi Hill, daughter of Frank Theodore and Elizabeth Juanita (Short) Smith, was born April 21, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio. She departed this life Thursday, March 15, 2012, in her home, in Waynesville, Missouri, at the age of seventy years, ten months and twenty-three days. On January 9, 1957, in Dayton, Ohio, she was united in marriage to Larry Wayne Hill. She left a notation “that her wedding day was the happiest day of her life”. They were blessed with three children: Connie Elizabeth, Pete Marshall and Larry Edward. Her husband Larry preceded her in death on November 4, 1991. Due to Larry being in the military, Carole and the family moved several times. They lived in Germany, as well as Wisconsin, South Dakota, California and Texas. The family was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood three times before moving here at the time of Larry’s retirement. Carole was a hardworking woman. Carole worked as a cashier, waitress and car parts courier. While living in Germany, she owned and operated a gift shop and opened another gift shop at Chip and Dale’s in St. Robert after moving to the Fort Leonard Wood area. She also owned and operated the Laundry Room in Waynesville in 1993 and has been the manager of Waynesville Estates since 1984. Her helpful, generous, caring spirit was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In her spare time, Carole enjoyed bowling, playing Pinochle, and reading. She loved to travel and especially making trips to the Casino. She was a very talented artist and did beautiful oil paintings and sketches. Carole had a love for animals, especially her pets and she took in many strays throughout her lifetime. She was a member of different bowling leagues, the NCO Wives Club and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Most importantly, she treasured the times spent with her family and they fondly referred to her as Mom, Mum and Mam. Carole will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Connie Elizabeth Hall and husband, James, of Prospect, KY, Pete Marshall Hill of the state of California, and Larry Edward Hill of New Orleans, LA; three granddaughters, Sarah, Katie and Rebecca Hall, who brought great joy to her life; two brothers, Frank Smith and wife, Barbara, of Oceanside, CA, and Donald Smith and wife, Carol, of Perrysburg, OH; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roy and Linda Durham, of Dixon, MO; cousins, Janet and Larry Hohenbrick of Dayton, OH; her Uncle Bill and Aunt Liz of Dayton, OH; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Martin Anthony, and a brother, Ted Smith. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. The songs “I Did It My Way”, “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden” were played. Serving as escorts were Dr. Jerry Brown, Josh Remmich, Dan Durham, Guy Ambrosia, Bob Belton and Danny DeVito. Burial followed in the Main Post Cemetery of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
