SFC (Ret) Charles Douglas Slack Sr.

April 27, 1929 - January 7, 2018

SFC (Ret) Charles Douglas Slack, Sr., son of Mitchell and Mary A. (Smith) Slack, was born April 27, 1929, in Jackson, Tennessee. He departed this life Sunday, January 7, 2018, in his home in St. Robert, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, eight months and ten days. He was the second oldest of five boys and two girls. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jamie Patterson; two brothers, Mitchell and Donald Slack; and twin sisters, Doris and Dorothy Slack. He married Oncle BeFore, and Charles D. Slack, Jr. was born to this union. On September 18, 1971, he was united in marriage to Georgia Ann Baxter, who preceded him in death on January 1, 2008. They raised six children. He was reared in Alton, Illinois where he graduated high school. HE later did odd jobs in the area. On February 15, 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country faithfully for twenty years. He was honorably discharged in 1975. After retiring from the service in Waynesville, Missouri he worked in Saudi Arabia as a Military Contractor, worked in Civil Service on Ft. Leonard Wood, driving a shuttle bus, drove for USA Tours and had driven for Ft. Leonard Cab Company. Charles had professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of the Greater Community Baptist Church in St. Robert, Missouri where he served as a deacon. Charles is survived by his children, Charles D. Slack, Jr. of the State of California, Juanita Smith of the State of Texas, Kenneth Baxter (Joyce) of St. Louis, MO, Theresa Pickett of St. Robert, MO, Peter Patterson of Waynesville, MO, and Anna Marie Jenkins (Randy) of Harker Heights, TX; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Summers of Indianapolis, IN and Nellie Collier (Charles) of Tallahassee, FL; two brothers, George Slack of St. Louis, MO and Raymond Slack of Alton, IL; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. We celebrate his life and cherish the memories he created for his family and friends. He will live on in our hearts forever. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Dr. William R. Boone officiating. Serving as escorts were John Patterson, Chad Patterson, Shawn Baxter, Art Dease, Raishon Pickett and Randy Jenkins. Serving as honorary escorts were Anthony Hightower and Peter Patterson. Burial with military honors followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charles Slack and may be left at the funeral home.
