Donald William Shutt, son of the late Donald Wilbur Shutt and Ann Teresa (Smith) Shutt, was born May 18, 1944 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. As a young boy, Don grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from high school. He furthered his education and was just a few classes short of finishing his Doctorate. In 1964, Don entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his retirement in 1985 after 21 years of service. For his faithful service, Don earned several awards and commendations; some of which include: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm (Unit), Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal with Device, overseas Service Ribbon - 2nd Award, Army Service Ribbon, Meritorious Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon - 3rd Level, Army Good Conduct Medal - 5th Award, Combat Medical Badge, Marksman Qualification Badge – M16 and Expert Qualification Badge – Hand Grenade. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and had served 2 years overseas during his career. After retiring from the military, Don continued serving as a police officer. He worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections, security for Capital Regional, officer for Fayette, Slater, Miller County Sheriff’s Department, and security for Callaway Engineer Center-nuclear power plant. In his spare time, Don enjoyed being outdoors traveling the backroads of Missouri on a motorcycle, fishing, and shooting guns. He also enjoyed drinking a cup of good strong cup of coffee, reading, watching war movies, and working on ham radios. Most importantly, Don loved spending time with his family, especially at family get togethers where there was BBQ involved. He cherished those times together. Don passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in the Harry S Truman VA Hospital of Columbia, Missouri having attained the age of 77. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Don leaves to cherish his memory, his children: George Shutt of Jefferson City, MO, William Shutt (Tabitha) of Ashland, MO, Patricia Trombino, and Donald and David Shutt; grandchildren: Shane, Mackenzie, and Ethan Shutt; other relatives and friends. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
