Grace Truman McClary, daughter of the late William Joseph and Nettie (Evans) Elam, was born June 25, 1919 on the Elam family farm in Pulaski County, Missouri. She grew up on the farm near Barlow Ford and attended Belfont School and later Richland High School. As a young girl, Grace made a profession of faith and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and became a member of the Independence Baptist Church. She later became a faithful member of the Idumea Baptist Church where she played the piano every Sunday until her passing. Grace was united in marriage to Herbert Hendrix and they were blessed with three children: Elaine, Richard and Gerald. Herbert preceded Grace in death. Grace was united in marriage to Francis Stanley Hammons and he preceded her in death. Grace was joined in marriage to Raymond McClary and he preceded her in death. Grace worked in the Post Exchange on Fort Leonard Wood for ten years. Grace also served as a pastor’s wife for many years and also managed a wedding chapel in Tulsa, Oklahoma for three years while living there. Grace went home to be with her Lord Friday, April 17, 2015 in the Lake Regional Hospital of Osage Beach, Missouri having attained the age of 95 years. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Grace leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter: Elaine Brown of Plainview, TX; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Mattix (Joshua) of Springfield, MO, Sarah Murphy (Bryant) of Waynesville, MO, Amanda Harmon (Robert) of St. Louis, MO, Andrew Hendrix of Eldon, MO, Rita Brumley of Waynesville, MO, Herb Hendrix of Waynesville, MO, Tim Brown (Carla) of Parrish, AL, Mary Beth Brown of Parrish, AL and Daniel Brown (Kim) of Plainview, TX; seventeen great grandchildren: Taylor, Aaron, Jaden, Isaiah, Lilly, Teage, Kayla, Rebecca, Samantha, Tyler, Noah, Jonathan, Jennifer Kay, Alecks, Christian, Luke and Hannah; several great-great grandchildren; one brother: Bill Elam; one sister: Ethel Wilson; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, Grace was preceded in death by two sons: Richard and Gerald Hendrix; one grandson: Mark Brown; two brothers: Jesse and Roger Elam; and five sisters: Anna Bowling, Mildred Clark, Flora Lawrence, Rose Weber and Bonnie McIntyre. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Grace McClary and may be left at the funeral home.
