Johnnie Bill Ely was born June 29, 1955, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to James Henry Ely and Shirley Ann (Victor) Ely. His father’s military career kept the family on the move during John’s young life. The family came to Missouri, where John graduated from Waynesville High School with the Class of 73. John was a machinist for twenty years. He worked for places such as, the old Tri-Co in Richland, Missouri before it closed; later he went on to work at Bear Trailer near Stoutland, Missouri for several years; then in 2009 John began his career at Detroit Tool Metal Products in Lebanon, Missouri. Through the years there, John worked in shipping and receiving, as a machinist, and inventory control before retiring in 2021.
