Leola Maxine Vaughan

May 18, 1924 - April 4, 2015

Leola Maxine Vaughan was born May 18, 1924 in the community of Wildwood, Missouri in Pulaski County. She was one of five children born to the union of the late Walter D. and Bessie (Randolph) York. Maxine departed this life the morning of April 4, 2015 at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 17 days. In 1944, she was united in marriage to Maurice Vaughan. They shared over 55 years of marriage together and were blessed with one daughter: Patricia Peterson. Maxine and her family were members of the First United Church for many years. More recently, she faithfully attended the Church of God in St. Robert until her health declined. Maxine dedicated her life to the love and care of her family and home. Although distance separated her from her immediate family, the accomplishments of her grandsons and great granddaughters were a source of great joy. There was a true pioneer spirit about her and she took great pride in living independently up until the last weeks of her life. Maxine had a life-long love of nature and the outdoors and spent many leisure hours gardening and tending to her yard. She grew prize tomatoes every summer which she shared with neighbors and friends. Maxine loved to cook and bake and she collected recipes as a hobby. Maxine was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by one daughter: Patricia Peterson of Escondido, CA; two grandsons: Zachary (Jamie) of San Luis Obispo, CA and Andrew (Tera) of Carlsbad, CA; two great granddaughters: Eleanor and Clara; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Walter and Bessie, she was preceded in death by her husband; Maurice Vaughan; three brothers: Leslie, Paul and Walter York; and one sister: Cora Mae Dye. Graveside services and interment were held on Monday, April 6, 2015 in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
