SFC (Ret) McClure Stevens Jr.

January 31, 1942 - December 14, 2014

SFC (Ret) McClure Stevens, Jr. departed this life on December 14, 2014. He was born January 31, 1942 in Faison, North Carolina to McClure Stevens, Sr. and Annie Mozelle Warren. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York but traveled back to Faison, North Carolina frequently to visit family and friends. Family was very important to him. He enjoyed being with his family and loved having his grandchildren around him. SFC Stevens was a member of two branches of the armed services. He first served in the United States Marine Corp but spent the majority of his distinguished military service in the United States Army. He held many positions while in the U.S. Army including being assigned as a Wheel Tractor Operator, Heavy Construction Equipment Operator, Heavy Construction Equipment Supervisor, Construction Equipment Senior Instructor, and his last assignment as a Construction Equipment Supervisor. Throughout his military service, he served with pride and distinction. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam, three in Korea, and one in Germany. SFC Stevens was awarded several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Driver Mechanic Badge, 3 Overseas Service Ribbons, the Purple Heart, 3 Vietnam Service Medals, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry (Unit Citation), 6 Army Good Conduct Medals, The Army Commendation Medal and the Expert Qualification Badge for the M16 Rifle. He retired from the U.S. Army on October 31, 1988. McClure Stevens Jr. is survived by his beloved wife Alzora, his children Karen Stevens, McClure Stevens III, Stephanie Mozelle Stevens, Maurice L. Stevens, Zoe A. Stevens Robinson (Ryan), and Tyrell T. Stevens; children by marriage: Michael Stevens, Dalton Bugg (Phyllis) and Polly Ette Milligan; sisters Gloriestine Shepherd, Angeline Ingram, Geraldine “Peggy” Brunson; brothers Tommie Stevens, Ronnie Stevens, and Maurice Stevens and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. McClure Stevens Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mozell Stevens and McClure Stevens, Sr.; sister Gracie Shirleen Stevens; brothers James Earl Stevens and Edward Devon Stevens. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 in the First Assembly of God of St. Robert, Missouri with Pastor Chris Wiggs officiating. The songs “Amen” by Larnelle Harris, “Sometime I Wonder” by Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, “Take Me To The King” by Tamela Mann and “Smile” by Kirk Franklin were played. Serving as escorts were the United States Army. Burial with military honors followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery of Waynesville. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of McClure Stevens and may be left at the funeral home.
