Mildred Rose Kelley

May 22, 1933 - August 24, 2017

Mildred Rose Kelley, daughter of the late Raymond and Aerial (Giddings) Housour, was born May 22, 1933 in Burt, Iowa. As a young girl, Mildred and her family moved to Lubbock, Texas where she attended school. Mildred was united in marriage to Lloyd Kelley, Sr. They shared many wonderful years and memories together and six children. Mildred was a hardworking woman and took great pride in helping to take care of her family. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Ministerial Alliance for 25 years and also for Kelley’s Mobile Home Repair & Service. In addition to taking care of her own family, she and Lloyd served as foster parents for many children. Mildred enjoyed playing card and board games with her family, especially playing Scrabble and Dominoes with her sister Ruth. She liked to write poetry, of which several of those were published. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals and she loved to travel and visit her family and friends. Some of her favorite places to visit were Utah and Colorado. Mildred was very talented when it came to handwork, especially crocheting and embroidery and she enjoyed giving the things that she made to her family and friends. Mildred was also a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. Mildred passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 in the Life Care Center of Waynesville, Missouri having attained the age of 84 years. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Mildred leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children: Lloyd Kelley Jr. of Waynesville, Missouri, Clifton Kelley of St. Robert, Missouri and Louise Allen of St. Robert, Missouri; one brother: Henry Housour of Lubbock, Texas; one sister: Ruth Hollingsworth of Anchorage, Alaska; 7 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; one brother, two infant sons, one infant daughter and two grandchildren. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Bro. Jaurel Fincher officiating. The songs “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Amazing Grace” and “My Sisters and Brothers” were played. Serving as escorts were her loving family and friends. Burial followed in the Newburg Cemetery of Newburg, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mildred Kelley and may be left at the funeral home.
