Oda Dwane Hobbs

October 13, 1949 - February 26, 2016

Oda Dwane Hobbs, son of the late Oda Ellis Thomas and Audrey Edna (York) Hobbs, was born October 13, 1949 in Richland, Missouri where he grew up and attended school. In 1969, Dwane entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge in 1971. He earned several awards and commendations; some of which include: National Defense Service Medal, Expeditionary Qualification Badge, Marksman Qualification Badge M16 and Marksman Qualification Badge M60. On November 18, 1977, Dwane was united in marriage to Frances Louise Calton in Versailles, Missouri. They shared over 38 years of marriage together and seven children: Paula Jean, Cynthia Lucille, Frances Marie, Cynthia Ann, Bobby Dwane, Eugene Clay and Cody Michael. After his time in the military, Dwane worked for the City of St. Robert as a mechanic and then as a Civil Service employee until he became disabled in 1992. In his spare time, Dwane enjoyed being outdoors while fishing and hunting, build and race stock cars and camping with his family. More importantly, he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Dwane passed away Friday, February 26, 2016 in the Harry S Truman Veterans Hospital of Columbia, Missouri having attained the age of 66. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Dwane leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Louise Hobbs of Richland, MO; seven children: Paula Jean Anderson of Waynesville, MO, Cynthia Lucille Griffes (Richard) of Purdy, MO, Frances Marie Zeigenbein (Rick) of St. Robert, MO, Cynthia Ann Andrews of Vienna, MO, Bobby Dwane Hobbs (Sheila) of Danbury, TX, Eugene Clay Peoples (Dorrianne) of Fairview, TX and Cody Michael Hobbs of St. Robert, MO; several siblings; 23 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Dwane was preceded in death by one sister: Shirley Farris and one brother: Scotty Hobbs Ogle. Services were held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Bro. Merrell Jefferies officiating. Soloists Cynthia Griffes and Haley Rasmussen sang “Dancing in the Sky.” Recorded music selections included “Amazing Grace” and “Daddy’s Hands.” Serving as escorts were B.R. Davis, Tom Allen, Paul Allen, Chris Hobbs, Dale Hobbs, Greg Andrews and Rick Zeigenbein. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Missouri Honors Team followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Oda Hobbs and may be left at the funeral home.
