SFC (Ret) Richard Albert Mann

July 10, 1940 - August 19, 2015

SFC (Ret) Richard Albert Mann, son of the late Albert and Matilda (Roeder) Mann, was born July 10, 1940 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. He graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1958 and shortly after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. Richard served his country faithfully with the U.S. Army Support Command’s 88th Transportation Company in Vietnam and also in Germany. He retired after 23 years of service and had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He earned several awards and commendations. While serving in Germany, Richard met the love of his life, Emma Ottillie Weirauch. They were united in marriage on May 25, 1961 in Worms, Germany and they shared over 54 years together and three daughters: Barbara, Sylvia, and Sandra. After retiring from the military, Richard began working at Fort Leonard Wood as a civilian and retired in 2005 due to health problems. Richard was a very active person. He enjoyed being outdoors camping, hiking or just enjoying nature. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and watched every game he could. He also enjoyed car racing and he loved to have a backyard BBQ with his family and friends. He treasured those times spent with his family. Richard passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in his home having attained the age of 75 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Richard leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Emma Mann of the home; three children: Barbara Jean Furey (Jack) of Cedarburg, WI, Sylvia Jean Calvo (Greg) of Camdenton, MO and Sandra Jean Wigger (Michael) of Lee’s Summit, MO; nine grandchildren: Vicente Calvo of Brandon, FL, Victor Calvo of Camdenton, MO, Tyler “T-Wiggs” Wigger of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jacob, Jay Cody, Jordan and James Furey, all of Cedarburg, WI, Natalie Raynor (Andy) of Prairie Village, KS and Amanda Wigger (Nick Hudson) of Independence, MO; two great grandchildren: Emma Calvo and one on the way; four sisters: Aleen Ballard of St. Louis, MO, Martha Sander of Milwaukee, WI, Ruth Volle (Norman) of Valley Park, MO and Alice Lynn (Shelby) of Evansville, IN; one brother: Arvin Mann of Haubstadt, IN; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Marc Magana officiating. Richard’s granddaughters, Natalie Raynor and Amanda Wigger, read a poem and Richard’s son-in-law, Greg Calvo recalled his wonderful memories of Richard. The songs “Amazing Grace” and “Precious Memories” were played. Serving as escorts were the United States Army and serving as honorary escorts were Vicente Calvo, Victor Calvo, Tyler “T-wiggs” Wigger, Jacob Furey, Jay Cody Furey, Jordan Furey, James Furey, Kirk Mann and Mark Lynn. Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in memory of Richard Mann to the Bond Clinic - Oncology Department and may be left at the funeral home.
