Shirley Ilene Holt

November 12, 1932 - January 10, 2015

Shirley Ilene Holt was born November 12, 1932 in Caney, Kansas. Shirley grew up in Kansas and graduated from high school. While still in Kansas, Shirley met her husband who was in the military and they moved to the Waynesville area in the 1950s. Shirley decided to stay in the Waynesville area and she was united in marriage to Harold Lloyd Holt on November 1, 1972. They shared over 41 years of marriage together and many wonderful memories. Harold preceded her in death on December 10, 2013. Shirley was a hardworking person. She worked on Fort Leonard Wood in one of the school kitchens making lunches. She enjoyed seeing all the kids and making sure they were taken care of. In her spare time, she and Harold loved to go the local restaurants and visit with friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren when they came to visit. Shirley made an important decision in her life and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was a member of the Mt. Gibson Baptist Church before moving to Wamego, Kansas in October of 2014. Shirley went home to be with her Lord Saturday, January 10, 2015 in the Good Samaritan Society-Valley Vista of Wamego, Kansas having attained the age of 82 years, 1 month and 29 days. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, one son: Mike McKinney and wife Myrtle of Wamego, KS; two grandsons: Kenworth Michael McKinney and wife Crystal of Des Moines, IA and Jesse Bryan McKinney of Holten, KS; one great grandson: Cooper McKinney; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by one son: Mitchell McKinney and one sister: Betty Jane Cottrell. Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Dr. Paul Miller and Rev. Richard Breeden officiating. The songs “Amazing Grace”, “Beulah Land” and “Precious Memories” were played. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley Holt to the Mt. Gibson Baptist Church Building Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
