Sumiko Yamada Schueler

Sumiko Yamada Schueler, daughter of Yaqunoshin and Miyono Yamada, was born March 25, 1932 in Fukushima, Japan where she grew up and attended school. Sumiko was a nurse while living in Tokyo, Japan and it was while she was there living with her aunt, that she met the love of her life, Clarence E. Schueler, a United States soldier. They were united in marriage on December 6, 1956 in Tokyo. In 1958, Sumiko came to the United States and went to Minnesota where Clarence was from. They then moved to Fort Leonard Wood in 1964 and she worked as a housekeeper in various hotels in the area. For a time, she was employed as a waitress in a Japanese Restaurant in Rolla. In her spare time, Sumiko enjoyed being outdoors. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in her flower gardens. Sumiko passed away at 9:46 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 in her home having attained the age of 82 years, 11 months and 19 days. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Sumiko leaves to cherish her memory two brothers: Hiroyasu Yamada and family, and Masaru Yamada and family; one sister-in-law: Hiroko Yamada; one nephew: Hideto Yamada and family; one niece: Yoshiko and family; and a host of other family members of Japan; sister-in-law: Carol Nelson, niece: Cindy Mae Nelson and nephew: David and Diane Nelson all of Minnesota; friends like family: Margit and Arthur Curenton, Curtis, Nori, Ciren, Cavonn and Cuinton Curenton, Mioko and Jimmy Mills and Mieko Baptiste, and a host of other friends. Sumiko was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2002, and two brothers.
