SSG (Ret) Thomas DeKorsey

February 16, 1938 - August 10, 2014

SSG (Ret) Thomas DeKorsey, son of the late Anthony and Dora DeKorsey, was born February 16, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri where he grew up and attended school. In 1955, Thomas enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully for the next 22 years and retired having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant on January 31, 1977. He did tours in Korea, Germany and Vietnam and retired at Fort Leonard Wood. On December 21, 1963 in St. Louis, Thomas married the love of his life, Ruthane Crecelius. They just celebrated their 50th anniversary this past December. They shared many wonderful memories and two children: Thomas and Robert. After his retirement from the military, Thomas was able to do more of the things he enjoyed. He loved to spend time in the outdoors; whether it was working in the garden or in the flower beds. He like to read and also collecting coins. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association. Most importantly, Thomas treasured spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Thomas passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri having attained the age of 76 years. Thomas leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Ruthane E. DeKorsey of Waynesville, MO; two sons: Thomas and Robert DeKorsey; daughter-in-law: Rebecca DeKorsey; two grandchildren: Brenden and Colby; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2014 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Chaplain (CPT) Fr. Mark Mastin officiating. Serving as escorts were the United States Army. Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
