Charles William Nicks

Charles William Nicks, son of the late William Bryan and Edith Imo (Hendricks) Nicks, was born February 20, 1932 in Laquey, Missouri where he grew up and attended school. On March 23, 1951, Charles was united in marriage to Catherine (Lane) Bell in Waynesville, Missouri. They shared over 40 years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: Charles, Cathy and James. Charles served his country faithfully in the United States Army and was awarded several awards and commendations. He was honorably discharged and had attained the rank of Corporal. For a short period of time, Charles lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was employed as an industrial painter. After leaving Baton Rouge, Charles and his family moved back to the Crocker, Missouri area and he became employed with Goodrich Gas Company driving a truck. He retired in the late 1990’s after many years of service. After his retirement, Charles was able to do more things that he enjoyed. He collected guns, enjoyed being outdoors while fishing, taking pictures of family and friends and liked studying airplanes, especially military planes. Most importantly, he treasured the times that he could spend with his family and friends. Charles passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri at the age of 77years. Charles will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by two sons: Charles B. Nicks and his wife Linda of St. Robert, MO and James A. Nicks and his wife Paula of N. Hunnington, PA; special friends: Sandy Blackburn of St. Robert, MO; 7 grandchildren: Tammie Clark of St. Robert, MO, Melissa Leaman and her husband Thomas of Denver, CO, Pamela Pierce and her husband Mike of Rolla, MO, Stormie Nicks of Springfield, MO, Astrid Nicks of Springfield, MO, Brieann Nicks of the state of Pennsylvania and Charlene Nicks of St. Robert, MO; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; his daughter: Cathy Sue Keeney; one brother: Everett Nicks; and three sisters: Edna Cox, Evelyn Davenport and Florence Roam. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 7, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory with Rev. Bill Claiborn officiating. The songs “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” were played. Serving as escorts were Steve Wilkinson, Scott Mercier, Frank Davenport, Bill Davenport, Curt Cox, Grant Cox, Alan Clark and Kevin Leaman. Burial with military honors followed in the Antioch Cemetery near Crocker, Missouri. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory.
