Elizabeth Rose Foster

Elizabeth Rose Foster was the 13th of 14 children born to Troy and Kate Waybright on April 8, 1933 in Cherry Grove, WV. She was baptized at an early age in the Chamblin Cottage Presbyterian Church of Cherry Grove, WV. On October 24, 1943 she joined the Swank Chapel Presbyterian Church near their home in Bluegrass VA where she attended for many years. Elizabeth went to school in Bluegrass VA where she graduated from high school. While in school she played sports and was well known as the backstop for the softball team. She was the 1st May Queen in Highland County, VA. She married Kenneth Ray Foster and had 4 children, Pam, Ken Jr., Rodney, and Alicia. She faithfully supported her beloved husband throughout his 25+ year military career making a loving home for the family wherever they moved. She was very active in the military community. She established a youth bowling league while living in Ft. Greeley AK and ensured trophies were provided to the children. While living at Ft. Leonard Wood MO she was active in the NCO Wives Club where she was President for two years directing the club into supporting the military and civilian community by visits to hospital patients, collection of toys for the children’s ward, assisting needy families, providing scholarships, and organizing Christmas parties for the St James Missouri Soldiers Home. Elizabeth was very active in the Army Community Service where she donated thousands of volunteer hours. She established a food pantry and loan closet for young and needy families. She was a truly dedicated member of her military family. Elizabeth was an accomplished bowler and enjoyed bowling for over 40 years. She enjoyed the camaraderie of her bowling alley family and competed in numerous local, state, and national tournaments. She enjoyed fishing, and feeding her bird, squirrel, and kitty friends. She visited all 50 states in her travels to see the all beauty and wonder of this country. She also enjoyed the company of her special long time friend Charlie Hall. Elizabeth was a long time member of many local organizations such as TOPS MO 223, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0331, life member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter 3176, and the relatively new Chapter of Red Hats Forever. Elizabeth is survived by her 4 children Pamela Parnell (Tony) of Salisbury, NC, Kenneth Ray Foster, Jr. (Joyce) of Jefferson City, MO, Rodney Foster of Garland, TX, and Alicia Stockdale (Gregg) of Dixon, MO. She is also survived by her sister Ardath Murphy (Herman) of Cherry Grove, WV, two special sisters in law Ina Jean Waybright of Alexandria, VA, and Mary Waybright of Coshocton, OH, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband Kenneth Foster, her parents Troy and Kate Waybright, all 6 of her brothers, Vivian, Thomas, Warner, Ishmael, Troy Jr., and Joseph, and 6 of her 7 sisters, Tudie, Norma, Therese, Gwendolyn, Dolf, and Connie. Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Christopher Hendrix officiating. The songs “Go Rest High on that Mountain”, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” were played. Serving as escorts were Douglas Murphy, Michael Looney, Bradley Brookshire, Kenneth Stockdale, Gene Stockdale and Joseph Reynolds. Burial followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood.
