James Woodrow "Woody" King

James Woodrow “Woody” King, beloved son of the late Houston Leroy King and Helen Mae (Bowen) King, was born in Rolla, Missouri, on February 12, 1961. From his earliest years, Woody called Rolla home, growing up there and attending school among the community that helped shape the man he would become. Woody was a hardworking man who spent many of his younger years working at the Bow Wow Dog Food Plant in Rolla, where he devoted the majority of his working life. He later continued his strong work ethic with Myers Asphalt. Those who knew Woody knew how much he loved racing. For many years, he was a driver on the demolition derby circuit, where he brought energy, grit, and excitement to the track. He also enjoyed keeping up with NASCAR racing. When he was not following the roar of the engines, Woody found joy in the outdoors and could often be found tending to his garden. Woody made a profession of faith and was a member of the Community Christian Church of Rolla, Missouri. Woody went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Life Care Center of Waynesville, Missouri, having attained the age of 65 years. He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; one brother, Gerald King; and two sisters, Carolyn Davis and Darlene Strickland. Woody will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Cheryl King of St. Joseph, MO, Cassidy King of Belle, MO, and Jamie King of Rolla, MO; stepdaughters, Shandi Wagoner of Rolla, MO, and Cheyenne Rush of Jerome, MO; fifteen grandchildren, including Treven, Stephen, Trenton, Shayla, Rooky, Marley, Thomas, Cierra, Mandy, Claire, Garrison, Grady, Gatlin, Cori and Case; two great-grandchildren, Addie, and Hayden; four sisters, Edith Johnson, Judy O’Connor, Brenda Drew and Jeanie Melton; along with many other relatives and friends. Though he is no longer here in person, Woody’s love, stories, laughter, and spirit will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to share in his life. The memories he created and the lives he touched will continue to be cherished for years to come. Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date and are under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of James “Woody” King to the organization of the donor’s choice.
