Marcella Faye VanDeVenter

Marcella Faye VanDeVenter, daughter of the late Vernie Alvin Coogan and Dorothy Ellen (Wieners) Coogan, was born on September 2, 1942, in Pulaski County, Missouri. She spent her childhood in the Waynesville area, where she grew up and later graduated from Waynesville High School as a member of the Class of 1960. On October 23, 1960, Marcella married David Paul VanDeVenter. Their story began in the sixth grade when David moved to Waynesville from Mtn. Grove, Missouri. Together, they were blessed with two daughters: Vickie, who sadly passed away as an infant in 1961, and Roxanne. Marcella was dedicated to supporting her family. She started her working years at the Pulaski County Democrat and later joined Security Bank of Pulaski County as a proof operator. After seven years at the bank, Marcella and her family relocated to Mtn. Grove, where she worked for Delta Loan for ten years. Eventually, she returned to Waynesville and rejoined Security Bank in 1980, dedicating herself there until her retirement in 1999. Marcella enjoyed spending her free time reading and working on a variety of puzzles, including jigsaw, crossword, and word find puzzles. She was also an enthusiastic collector, focusing mainly on stamps, postcards, and salt and pepper shakers. Marcella professed her faith early in life and was a member of the Westside Baptist Church of Waynesville. On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Marcella entered her heavenly home at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Vickie, and her husband David. Marcella is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Hendrix (Buzz) of Laquey, MO; her grandson, Christopher Hendrix (Sara) of Waynesville, MO; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brody; two brothers, Ralph Coogan of San Antonio, TX, and Alvin Coogan of Wright City, MO; her uncle, Clarence Wieners of Laquey, MO; and several other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Though Marcella is no longer with us, her spirit will remain in our hearts forever. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2026, in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Curtis Hendrix officiating. Serving as escorts were Christopher Hendrix, Brayden Hendrix, Brody Hendrix, Ron Bowling, Eugene Wyatt, Josh Nickels, Greg Cantrell, and Ben Peschel. Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Marcella VanDeVenter and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
