SFC (Ret) Warren Wayne Britton

Warren Wayne Britton, the youngest of 13 children of the late Ralph Howard Britton and Bessie Mae (Groves) Britton, was born April 17, 1943, in Sioux City, Iowa. As a young boy, Warren grew up in Sioux City and during his senior year at Riverside High School, he chose to join the United States Army. Warren served his country faithfully until his retirement in 1981. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7). He served in Vietnam, Germany and many stateside duty stations. During his service, Warren held many jobs including floating bridge engineer, infantry and field artillery, mess sergeant, and finally a drill sergeant. After his retirement from the military, Warren worked as a baker, an autobody mechanic, school bus driver and school custodian. He retired from the Waynesville R-VI School District in 1999. Following his final retirement, he became a jack of all trades, a handyman to all! On July 1, 1961, in Sioux City, Iowa, Warren was united in marriage to Karen Louise Kellogg. They shared over 63 years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: Warren Jr., Pamela, and Theresa. In his spare time and later after his retirement, you could find Warren at the ballfields or courts cheering on his grandchildren. He loved to spend time camping and fishing on the weekends. When there happened to be a local car show, he enjoyed looking at the cars and reminiscing about his old vehicles and road trips. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Missouri Chapter 49, Francis J. Lynch VFW Post 3168, Knights of Columbus of St. Robert, and the Pulaski County Area Retired School Personnel. He was also a member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Warren entered his eternal home on Thursday, November 28, 2024, in the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri having reached the age of 81 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Warren leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Karen Britton of the home; three children: Warren Britton, Jr. (Linda) of Waynesville, MO, Pam Anderson (Andy) of Waynesville, MO, and Theresa Meyer of Waynesville, MO; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Ellis (Billy) of Dixon, MO, Warren Christopher Britton of the State of Colorado, Kelsey Donaldson (Patrick) of Winter Garden, FL, Andrew Anderson of Waynesville, MO, Jessica Meyer of Springfield, MO, Anna Anderson of Waynesville, MO, and Jake Britton of the State of Arkansas; two sisters: Wanda Maes of Colorado Springs, CO and Karen Young of North Sioux City, SD; sister-in-law: Ardith Hughes; brother-in-law: Lance Kellogg; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by five sisters; five brothers; son-in-law: Darl Meyer; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Helen and Clarence Kellogg; one brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; along with other family members and friends. Even though he is gone from our sight, Warren’s love for his family and commitment to his country will live on in our hearts forever. Services were held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2024 in the Westside Baptist Church of Waynesville, Missouri with Pastor John Shaw officiating. Warren's granddaughter, Anna Anderson sang "Amazing Grace", soloist Mike Freeman sang "Because He Lives" and "When We All Get to Heaven" and soloist Becky Lercher sang "Another Soldier's Coming Home". Serving as escorts were Andy Anderson, Andrew Anderson, Billy Ellis, Tim Wand, Dillon Keeling, and Hunter Solomon. Serving as honorary escorts were Bud Britton, Lance Kellogg, Nathan Miller, and Josh Hettich. Burial with military honors followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri with military honors provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Warren Britton and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert or at Westside Baptist Church of Waynesville.
